Findochty Community Council wrote to Moray Council about the Learning Estate Review and its possible effect on Findochty Primary School. We included detailed feedback from parents. The Council’s reply, dated 18 September 2026 and sent by Andrew Hall, Service Manager, Education Estate, is published here so that residents can read it in full.
The main points of the reply
- No decision has been made on any changes to schools in Moray.
- No option for Findochty Primary School has been developed, agreed or recommended, including any merger with another school. Discussions in the Buckie area identified possible future directions for discussion only; they are not formal options or recommendation
- The report considered by the Education, Children’s and Leisure Services Committee on 1 September 2026 asked only for approval of a method for future planning, investment priorities and options appraisal. It did not ask for approval of any school closure, merger or catchment change.
- The points we raised, including utilisation benchmarks, suitability ratings, community sustainability, whole-life costs, housing uncertainty and decision triggers, will be considered through that framework before any specific proposal is developed.
- Approving the framework does not decide the future of any individual school. Any specific proposal in future would need separate evidence, appraisal, reporting and, where applicable, statutory consultation, and parents, carers, pupils, staff and community councils would have the chance to take part
What happens next
The reply says that no decision has been made, which is not the same as a promise about the future. The Community Council will keep following the review, and the reply will inform our approach to any future consultation or survey.
If you have questions or views about the review, please contact the Community Council.
