Community Resilience Group — preview

Findochty Community Council established a Community Resilience Group in June 2024 to help prepare the village for emergencies. The group works alongside - not instead of - the emergency services, Moray Council, and other agencies.

What the group does

The group's focus is on preparedness - identifying local risks, maintaining an emergency plan, building relationships with relevant agencies, and making sure residents have the information and resources they need before an emergency happens.

Maintaining and regularly reviewing Findochty's Community Emergency Plan
Sourcing and managing community emergency equipment
Running community resilience events and awareness activities
Attending training and resilience events on behalf of the community
Building links with Moray Council, emergency services, and neighbouring community councils
Meeting quarterly, or more frequently when matters arise

What we've achieved

Community Emergency Plan Produced and maintained a full community emergency plan, now on its third revision (May 2026). The plan covers local risk assessment, emergency contacts, safe locations, equipment, and response procedures.

Emergency equipment Sourced funding and obtained a Community Emergency Resilience Kit - held at Findochty Town Hall and checked quarterly, and walkie talkies for emergency communications. See the Equipment page for full details.

Community resilience event Organised and ran a well-attended public event at Findochty Town Hall, with participation from Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN), two local Moray councillors, and the Community Council Liaison Officer.

Training and development Group members regularly attend online and in-person resilience events and training, keeping up to date with best practice in community emergency planning.

The Resilience Group was established in June 2024 and currently has three members.
