What the plan covers

The plan sets out how the community will prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies. It is not a substitute for calling 999 - emergency services always take priority. The plan is designed to complement their work by coordinating local support.

It includes a local risk assessment, an inventory of community skills and resources, identified safe locations, emergency contact arrangements, and agreed procedures for activating and standing down the response.

Risks identified for Findochty

The plan's risk assessment covers the following scenarios, each with agreed group actions.

Severe weather and flooding
Wildfire (coastal paths, Sannie Craig)
Power outage and utility disruption
Lost person
Fire affecting properties
Infectious disease outbreak
Impassable roads and supply disruption
Vehicle collision

Safe locations

The plan identifies three locations that can be used as safe places for residents during an emergency.

Findochty Town Hall 22 Station Road, Findochty, AB56 4PN
Defibrillator Generator Kitchen Toilets Heating Resilience kit
Salvation Army Hall 3A Chapel Street, Findochty, AB56 4QX
Safe place Heating Toilets
Admirals Inn 6 Jubilee Terrace, Findochty, AB56 4QA
Safe place Heating Kitchen Toilets

Groups requiring extra support

The plan identifies residents who may need additional help during an emergency. Around 28% of Findochty's population is aged 65 or over. The plan specifically considers:

  • Older adults (65+)
  • People living alone
  • Young people and adolescents
  • Digitally excluded individuals who may not receive online alerts or updates

If you are aware of a vulnerable resident who may need support in an emergency, contact the Resilience Group so they can be included in planning.

In an emergency

Always call 999 first if there is an immediate threat to life. The community plan is activated alongside - never instead of - the emergency services.
