Resilience
Findochty is a small coastal community - and that means both specific risks and real strengths. This section covers how residents can prepare for emergencies, what Findochty Community Council is doing to support community resilience, and where to find help when it matters.
What is community resilience?
Community resilience is about people helping each other before, during, and after an emergency - using local knowledge and local resources to reduce the impact of events that would otherwise disrupt village life.
It doesn't replace the emergency services, Moray Council, or other professional organisations. It works alongside them, filling the gaps that only local people can fill.
Resilience is
- Using local knowledge to support neighbours
- Raising awareness of local risks
- Building links with the local authority and emergency services
- Encouraging a stronger sense of community
- Being prepared before an emergency happens
Resilience is not
- Replacing emergency services or local authorities
- Acting alone or without coordination
- Putting yourself or others at risk
- A reason for services to be reduced or cut
